Hello,
any of the P.L.C. boffins out there I have 3 machines that I must get Going trouble is the control system is via a Siemens LOGO 230RCL they are approx 10 yrs old and I know that contacting Siemens would be futile as they will only want to sell me a new system what I need is the software ( program) and the dongle to connect the unit up to my computer so that I can read the program to see what the heck is going on as there are timers switching solenoids and a pump, fans and lights.I have tried to download the software from the net but Siemens obviously dont allow it I can only get an explaination on the operation of the unit, also the programming is in list or statement wich I am not familier with I have done some programming but in ladder. I will attach a picture of the plc it has 12 IPs and 8 OPshttp://www.theforumsa.co.za/forums/attachment.php?
Please help.
Thanks!

Hello,
I have been given the responsibility of programming PLCs using standard master programs. All I was trained/taught was how to locate/open the program and how to connect to a PLC and program it so needless to say I am very new to all of this. That is not the problem, though, at the moment.
The software that was installed on my computer (running Windows 7) is DirectSOFT5 Program (5.3.0.194) but another colleague had a different version, DirectSOFT32 (so the icon says) version 4.0 build 16 (4.0.0.16) running on a Windows XP computer.
Looking around the internet I think this the older version (obviously) that would run only on computers with Windows XP or lower. Can someone confirm this please, or give me any better info that might shed light on what's what?
LASTLY, there as was program I tried opening (with the DS32 software) but it failed - errors: File open/access error, Filter Error: Reading PLC Type, Unable to open program.
Please help.
Thanks!

Hello,
I was a 6-and-out Navy Nuke Electrician on a Sub. I finished my service in Jan 2015 and immediately went to work as a shift electrician at a steel mill. I always say I was a good nuclear operator, but a poor electrician. However, I think I have learned rather quickly and really enjoy PLC's and HMI development. At my company, we have a lot of liberty to modify code, create new projects, etc.
I primarily work with S7-300/S7-400 and GE UC's at work; and I have a Micrologix emulator and programming software I practice on. All of our HMI development is done in InTouch and I feel proficient with WW, having done some projects with Modbus/DASSIDirect on my own.
As this is the first industrial automation job I have ever had, I only know about the software and hardware I have been exposed to at work. My question is what are other popular HMI software suites that major employers use (and customers prefer), because I'd really like to become very good at the programming/control side of my job.
Please help.
Thanks!

Hello everyone,
I have a problem while reading data from Siemens PLC. I'm using Codesys for reading data from other PLC's through Modbus interface, but for Siemens, it's a little bit different.
Maybe there is a possibility to read data with Python from Siemens with PLC and then to read it with Codesys? Maybe someone has tried something like this? Or you have other ideas how to solve this problem?
Please help.
Thanks!
